Kevin McCarthy Vows to Strip Three Dems of House Committee Seats
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., promised to make good on earlier promises to boot three Democrats from committee assignments.
Rep. McCarthy is considered the most likely contender to be selected Speaker of the House in January when the new congressional session begins.
The California Republican made his remarks during a Sunday interview with Maria Bartiromo, anchor for the Fox News program “Sunday Morning Futures”. McCarthy declared that Representatives Eric Swalwell, Adam Schiff and Ilhan Omar will be stripped of their committee assignments.
The prospective Majority Leader pointed to Swalwell’s hiring of a woman who turned out to be a suspected spy for the People’s Republic of China. Christine Fang allegedly helped place an intern in the California Democrat’s office, according to an Axios report.
“One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector,” McCarthy said. “Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So I will not allow him to be on Intel.”
Schiff is on the “S” list because of his promotion of the false dossier produced by the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. Omar should be removed from committees because of her criticism of Israel, according to McCarthy.
“You have Adam Schiff, who lied to the American public time and again – we will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either,” the House Republican leader continued. “Look at Congresswoman Omar, her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We’re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs.”
McCarthy pledged his party will stand up to policies he disagrees with, not just in Congress but also in higher education institutions. He pointed to alleged incidents of anti-Semitism on various campuses that need to be addressed.
“We will investigate that as well and stop this to make sure that America does have the freedoms that we said we would keep, and we will stand up to it as we move forward,” he promised.
