Florida International University Linebacker Luke Knox Dead at 22

Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox’s younger brother died Wednesday, at 22, according to a Thursday announcement from his college.

“We are saddened by the sudden passing of Luke Knoxa member of the FIU Football program,” said a Florida International University Athletics Department statement. “We send our thoughts and prayers to Luke’s family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.”

The 6’3″ junior, Brentwood, Tennessee, native had played four years for Ole Miss before transferring to FIU. He was majoring in business at FIU before his untimely passing Wednesday evening. The university did not release a cause of death.

The university said police do not suspect foul play, according to an ESPN report.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox,” remarked FIU head football Coach Mike MacIntyre. “I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and at FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember.”

“He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident,” MacIntyre continued. “Luke’s family is special to me and they will continually be in my heart and prayers during this difficult time.”

The Buffalo Bills organization expressed their sympathy for the family, also.

We’re heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of Luke Knox,” commented a team representative on the Bills’ verified Twitter account. “Sending all of our thoughts, prayers and support to @Dawson_Knox and the Knox family during this difficult time.”

Bills’ Head Coach Sean McDermott said in a video, included on the team’s post about Knox, that it was tragic news he woke up to Thursday morning.

“Our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time,” McDermott said. “We’re right there with him, supporting his family.”

“We love him and we support him.”
